Jake finally got his way, he has been wanting to go to the sand dunes all summer, so we loaded up the 4-wheelers and headed to St.Anthony last Saturday. Ben rode Jenn's DS which had paddles and Jake rode Gus the Renegade with stock tires and I was on Hank the Outlander also with stock tires. We arrived at the dune's around 11:am, it was alittle cool, but not bad. It had rained during the night and so the sand was in great condition. We rode for about 5 hours and had a great time, the Outlander and Renegade did better than I thought they would for a couple of heavy utility type ATV's. We could go pretty much anywhere we wanted, just not up the real steep stuff. Ben was able to go pretty much anywhere he wanted on the DS, including Chokecherry without much trouble. We left the dunes about 4:30 and headed back to Idaho Falls where we stayed at Mom and Uncle Glenn's for the night. It was great to see both of them and to enjoy some great home cooking and get some visiting in. Sunday morning we got up and ate breakfast and headed back up to the dunes. During the night the wind had blown pretty hard, so the dunes weren't as good as the day before, there were a lot of razor backs on the tops of the dunes which made it trickier to ride and also more dangerous, so we decided to make a run back towards cholecherry the head back home. About the time we were ready to head back we came across a rider on a dirtbike who had broken down and was stranded. His friends had left him there while they headed back to their vehicles to get help. We stopped and offered to tow him back to the truck, at first he said he would wait for his friends so we headed out to play around some more. On the way back we stopped again and he must of had a change of heart because he took us up on the offer. I hooked on to him with my tow strap and away we went, this didn't last to long because his front wheel kept plowing into the sand and dumping him over. Next we tried lifting his front tire on to the back of the rack on the Outlander and Ben drove and the other guy rode on backwards on the back of the 4-wheeler to try and steady his bike, this worked for a while but still wasn't working out too well, so we decided to lay the whole bike sideways on the back of the Outlanders rack and he held onto it all the way back to the trucks. Hank saves the day, the rider was very appreciative of our help. Then we loaded up and headed home. "NO ONE GOT HURT AND NO ONE BROKE DOWN" so it made for a great ride.
